Veteran NFL coordinator shares advice on how to handle rumors regarding your coaching job security (Dom Capers)

Green Bay defensive coordinator Dom Capers is an NFL coaching icon. A longtime defensive coordinator, with nearly five decades in the coaching profession, and 34 seasons in the at the NFL level, Capers knows the unique highs and lows that are attached to the coaching profession.

Capers coaching career has included an incredible 16 stops, and literally span from coast to coast from his time as a graduate assistant and defensive backs at college stops like Washington and Hawaii, to places on the opposite side of the country, like with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. Along the way he's been fired at a few places, including as stints as the head coach with the Panthers and Houston Texans.

With the regular season finale just days away, the Packers are set to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008, leading to some chatter about Capers being on the hot seat.

So how does a veteran coach that's been through it all handle those rumors?

“If you get caught up in all that, then you have no chance. Because you’re talking about something you have no control over,” Capers shared with the Wisconsin State Journal.

“What we do have control over - and I talk with the players about this - our job is to get ready to play each week and go out and perform at a high level. I think if you talk with any of the players, one thing I’ve always believed in (has been) always focusing on the things you have control over.

"if you don’t do that in this business, then I think you’re in trouble.”
