An NFL drill teaching offensive players what many consider a defensive skill is a great reminder for coaches (Featured)

Out in New York, at the Giants rookie camp, an interesting drill caught the attention of Jenks HS (OK) offensive coordinator Dub Maddox, a coaching veteran with an eye for details.

The drill is something that would go unnoticed to the vast majority of non-coaches, but Maddox pointing it out provides an important reminder for all of us as coaches. The clip only lasts about 10 seconds, but the lesson in it speaks volumes.

The specific drill shows NFL rookies being taught the finer details of how to do something very, very simple - how to recover a fumble.

Think back to how many times a year you're sure your guy hopped on that loose ball, only for the referees to signal possession going the other way once the pile gets sorted out. It's a gut-wrenching feeling, especially for offensive guys.

The lesson here? If no detail is too small at the NFL level, no detail should be too small for you and your program either. Spend some time covering the simple, fundamental things that many take for granted.
