New UVA head coach Bronco Mendenhall: "There will be no cot in my office. I will not be sleeping there..." (Top)

Bronco Mendenhall took the podium as Virginia's new head coach today for the first time, and showed local media outlets and fans the personality that athletic director Craig Littlepage felt was a perfect fit for the UVA program and community.

Mendenhall spoke using a ton of buzzwods like "time and consistency will win the day," and at the beginning it will be "will over skill," and adding his belief that "how you do one thing is how you do everything."

But, far and away, the one quote that won Bronco's presser was this one:

At one point in the presser, Bronco talked about the process he went through after being named a first time head coach. After pouring over a ton of numbers, Bronco and his staff came back with three "predictors of success" from the history of BYU football. The first two got quite a laugh.

Mendenhall went on to note that they took that research to the next level by sitting down with his staff to find out if they score "X" amount of points and the defense holds the opponent to "X" amount of points then they've got an exponentially greater chance to win, again, based on BYU history. Him and his staff then sat down and devised schemes and plays based on the roster that they had available to reach those goals that they spent so much time researching.

Bronco will head back to Provo to coach BYU in their bowl game, and he noted during the presser today that if he was not allowed the opportunity to go back to BYU and coach them in the bowl game, that would have been a deal breaker for him. He added that his moral make up would not allow him to do something like that.
