Narduzzi: "We're trying to keep things as simple as we can. It's complex...but simple" (defense)

Over the past few months, when Pitt players have been asked about the new defensive scheme that Pat Narduzzi and Josh Conklin's brought in, the one word that reporters keep hearing is "simple".

After their second spring practice yesterday, Narduzzi was asked about what that means. "It means a lot," he explained. "We're trying to keep it as simple as we can, It's complex, but simple."

"There are a lot of moving parts to a defense. We want to make sure they're moving the right way, at the right time versus what we're going to see on offense. We've just got a way of simplifying things, I guess."

Narduzzi then added that they may not have to think as much in the new scheme, but they are still expected to react fast, and should be able to play a lot faster and all of that will reveal itself in due time.

Since Narduzzi led one of the top defensive units in the country over the past few seasons, I find it hard to believe that his scheme is simple. Simple schemes get shredded by top notch football minds. I do believe that Narduzzi and his staff have found a unique way to teach it to make it appear simple to the Pitt players, which is 90% of the battle. You can tell that they love the changes and have bought into the message on defense.
