After much speculation the past few days, especially heating up the past few hours, Jimbo Fisher has resigned at Florida State.
Fisher is heading to take over the Aggies.
"Today, Jimbo Fisher informed me he has accepted an offer to become the next head football coach at Texas A&M University," FSU president John Thrasher said in a statement. "Coach Fisher did an exceptional job as both an assistant coach at FSU and in the challenging role of successor to the legendary Bobby Bowden. I believe Texas A&M is getting one of the best coaches in college football. We appreciate all he has done for our program and wish him and his family great success moving forward.
Odell Haggins will lead the team against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
Fisher, who arrived in 2010 as the head coach in waiting under Bobby Bowden, spent a total of eight seasons in Tallahassee, including a national title in 2013. He won at least nine games every year, including six double-digit win seasons, leading up to 2017, where they slid to 5-6 after starting the season as the preseason #3 team in the country.
Before even having his introductory presser, Fisher will apparently be in the living rooms of the top recruits for the Aggies, truly hitting the ground running with the early signing day.
The past few years, Fisher's name has been brought up in connection with a number of opening, perhaps most notably LSU last year, but also at Texas and Tennessee as well.
Stay tuned to The Scoop, as this, and plenty more, continues to play out.
ESPN's Mark Schlabach is reporting Jimbo's contract is 10 years, $75 million. Schlabach notes Jimbo's average of $7.5 million over the life is second only to Saban's current deal which averages $8.1 million.
