Update:The school has now announced the move. Senior associate AD Julie Cromer Peoples will serve as interim AD.
Jeff Long will not return as the Arkansas athletics director, sources told FootballScoop Wednesday. Sources told FootballScoop the announcement is set for today. Tyler Thomason of KARK-TV in Little Rock first reported the news.
The Arkansas board of directors held a lengthy meeting last week in which no action was taken on Long or Bret Bielema's respective employment statuses.
Long was hired away from the AD chair at Pittsburgh in 2007. His first major move was to hire Bobby Petrino away from the Atlanta Falcons, a move that was viewed negatively within the profession but paid dividends on the field. Petrino guided the Hogs to a 25-5 mark with two New Year's Day bowl appearances in 2010-11 before Long fired him for the infamous motorcycle incident and its revelatory fallout in April of 2012.
Long installed John L. Smith as interim head coach for the 2012 season, a season that ended at 4-8. He lured Bret Bielema away from Wisconsin after the '12 season; Bielema is 29-32 overall and 11-27 in SEC play in five seasons as the head Hog.
Long's contract dictates that he be paid a $100,000 buyout.
