With one full weekend of college football behind us, and another one on tap this weekend no program has made an initial splash quite like Georgia State has.
Shawn Elliott's squad, who went into Knoxville as a three touchdown underdog by oddsmakers, knocked of the Vols 38-30 with a 17-point fourth quarter to go him victorious. Elliott and his program and their fan base were obviously excited about the win, and then Elliott pointed out that while the win was big, it probably wasn't the biggest win in the program's history - which garnered some attention as well.
This weekend, as Georgia State welcomes Furman to Atlanta for their home opener, the university has decided to do something special for folks being displaced by Hurricane Dorian, who hit landfall in North Carolina earlier today.
Here's the part of the release from Georgia State on the heartwarming gesture:
Complimentary tickets are available to residents of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina who have been displaced due to mandatory evacuations in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian. Residents who show a valid driver's license from the specific coastal zip codes that are under a mandatory evacuation will also be eligible to take advantage of this offer.
Up to four (4) complimentary tickets can be claimed at the Georgia State Stadium Office windows - while supplies last - beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday through kickoff on Saturday, September 7. Children 10 and under are free.
Hats off to the folks at Georgia State for thinking of this and for trying to do their part to provide a sense of normalcy for the people in the path of Dorian who are going through so much.
