After four seasons, Georgia State has made the decision to dismiss head coach Trent Miles. Pete Thamel was the first to report the move, and we have since confirmed.
Miles went 9-38 overall leading the team. In his first season (2013), which also happened to be the team's first in the Sun Belt Conference, Miles' Georgia State squad went winless (0-12). In year two he went 1-11, and in year three he led the team to a bowl appearance before finishing with a 6-7 mark in 2015. At the end of that season Miles was voted the Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
With the loss earlier today to ULM, Georgia State dropped to 2-8 on the year, and the administration decided it was time for a change in leadership.
Prior to being named the head coach at Georgia State, Miles saw similar success building the Indiana State (FCS) program from 0-12 in his first season, 1-10 in year two, to a jump to 6-5 in year three, the same mark in year four, and then a 7-4 finish in 2012 before leaving for Georgia State.
Past coaching stops for Miles include Washington (RBs), Notre Dame (WRs), Stanford (WRs), Green Bay Packers (WRs / quality control), Fresno State (WRs), Hawaii (DBs and WRs) Northern Illinois (DBs and WRs), and graduate assistant jobs at Indiana State, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Overall as a head coach at rebuilding programs at Georgia State and Indiana State, Miles is 29-74.
The opening at Georgia State marks the fifth opening of the year, and the fourth job that remains open after the official announcement of Jeff Tedford at Fresno State a few days ago. Keep track of all 2016-17 college head coaching changes here.
