During Duane Akina's nearly three decades of coaching defensive backs (perhaps most notably 2001-2010 and 2011-2014 at Texas) he's coached three Thorpe Award winners, and 20 of his defensive backs have gone on to play in the NFL.
It's no wonder why Texas had been considered "DBU" during his time in Austin, and that is largely due to Akina's tutelage and guidance in the secondary. When Stanford brought him on board this off season, they hit a home run.
Here, in Stanford's latest "Coach Speak" session, Akina (and some of his players) share some notes on his approach and overall philosophy when it comes to practice and defensive back play.
