Another big name and coaching veteran will lead a new Alliance of American Football league team (Dennis Erickson)

Dennis Erickson has been announced as the new head coach of the Alliance of American Football's Salt Lake City, Utah franchise.

The league made the official announcement on twitter.

Erickson is the latest among brand name coaches to join the league, joining the likes of Steve Spurrier (Orlando), Brad Childress (Atlanta), and Mike Singletary (Memphis).

Just a few seasons ago, Erickson was on staff at Utah, where he spent the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons working in a variety of roles on Kyle Whittingham's staff. The veteran coach started off as co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach in 2013 before transitioning to assistant head coach and running backs coach the his last few seasons with the program.

Erickson will bring a wealth of head coaching experience to the new league, including two stints leading NFL franchises (1995-98 with the Seahawks and 2003-04 with the 49ers). He's also led college programs at Idaho, Wyoming, Washington State, Miami (FL), Oregon State, Idaho and Oregon State as well.

Overall, Erickson has won two national titles (1989 and 1991 - both at Miami), and has a college head coaching record of 179-96-1 and a professional record of 40-56 with zero post season appearances.

Pheonix is the latest location to learn that they're getting a franchise as well, so stay tuned to The Scoop for a coach to be named there.
