Monday Morning Quarterback did a great profile on longtime college and NFL coach Ken Flajole, who spent last season coaching the inside linebackers with Rob Chudzinski in Cleveland, and it's a great read for coaches.
Flajole spent 37 years in the coaching profession, starting at his alma mater, Pacific Lutheran, and expanding to UTEP, Washington, Nevada, and into his start in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. His career literally took him from coast to coast, spanning 14 stops in total.
That kind of experience mean that there are very few things in the coaching profession that surprise Flajole anymore, but the most important lesson for those in the coaching profession to bring away from the article is that regardless of how long you've been in coaching, and how many people you know, you can still end up without a coaching job at the end of hiring season.
He knows that because it happened to him this past season, and now he's not on the sideline for the first time in over four decades (counting his high school and college playing days).
The piece also talks about how his career affected his family, and how two words from his wife led him back to coaching after encountering some doubts on one point in his journey.
Make some time to read the full piece here. It's a really solid read.
