UCF, USF have key offensive openings after exits (Okahoma)

Both Central Florida and South Florida are working to fill vacancies on the offensive side of the ball sources tell FootballScoop.

In Orlando, where coach Josh Heupel has led the Knights to 28 wins in three seasons, UCF needs a replacement for Darrell Wyatt, who left that program late last week, several sources told FootballScoop.

Wyatt coached wide receivers for the Knights for the past three seasons. Wyatt also has previous stints at Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Houston and Southern Miss, among others, as well as the NFL's Minnesota Vikings.

Wyatt has emerged as a potential candidate to join new Auburn coach Bryan Harsin's first staff on the Plains, per sources.

Auburn assistant Kodi Burns – a former Tigers' player – has emerged as a target to replace Wyatt at Central Florida.

Multiple sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Sunday that Burns had quickly emerged as a candidate to join the uptempo, high-scoring Knights' offense orchestrated by Heupel and rising young offensive coordinator, Alex Golesh.

Burns was a part of Auburn's 2010 BCS national championship team with Cam Newton and had spent six total seasons on staff at his alma mater, roles that included co-offensive coordinator and most recently, passing game coordinator.

At South Florida, Jeff Scott needs to fill a spot on the offensive side of the ball after parting ways with Pat White.

Sources confirmed to FootballScoop that White, a former standout player at West Virginia who made the leap from Alcorn State to Jeff Scott's initial USF staff a year ago, had been let go from the Bulls' program after Scott's first season.

USF finished the abbreviated 2020 campaign 1-8, with an opening win against FCS The Citadel and then eight-straight losses.

But the Bulls showed marked improvement down the stretch of the season, losing by just a single point against Memphis while also taking division champ Central Florida into the fourth quarter of a highly contested game before succumbing, 58-46. The Bulls also lost by just two points on the road at Temple.

White spent time playing professional football and baseball, drafted by the NFL's Miami Dolphins in the second round and spending time in that organization before also logging time in the Anaheim Angels' baseball system.

A Florida native, Scott has ample ties in the ACC from his time as distinguished assistant coach at Clemson, as well his ties throughout the South from his work recruiting the area.
