Dilfer is tabbing Steve Russ to head the Blazers defense in 2025.
A coaching veteran with decades’ experience, Russ has been serving as special assistant to the head coach, Troy Calhoun, at Air Force Academy.
A six-year NFL veteran with the Denver Broncos following his collegiate playing career at Air Force, Russ has traversed an impressive career in coaching that’s included Power Conference stops at Syracuse and Wake Forest, as well as NFL stints with the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers.
Russ has been a defensive head coach and coordinator, worked with linebackers and defensive backs and also coached special teams.
UAB is seeking to turn around its fortunes under Dilfer after a 3-9 campaign in which the Blazers led or were tied in the second half of multiple losses and dropped four games by 10 or fewer points.
