Protecting the Open Side Mid Zone - 5 Sequences to Match Numbers: The chances of the mid-zone cutting back are rare. This is why, without question, the most important block on the mid-zone concept is that of the play-side Tackle. And in the Big 10, these Tackles are continually matched against physical defensive ends who can easily control the line of scrimmage. So, offensive coaches need to find ways to protect that Tackle and attain a hat on a hat so that the ball can stay front side. University of Minnesota run game coordinator/offensive line coach Brian Callahan takes us through the five most common sequences he’ll build in to protect the play side of the mid-zone concept. Read the report.
