Sources: Maurice Linguist, Buffalo adding former Texas Longhorns staffer as running backs coach (cotton bowl)

Maurice 'Mo' Linguist is continuing his staff overhaul entering a pivotal Year 4 at Buffalo.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Linguist is hiring Ray Pickering as Buffalo's new running backs coach.

Linguist is continuing to retool his Buffalo staff on the heels of a disappointing 3-9 campaign, a year removed from an 7-6 season that was finished with a win in the Camellia Bowl.

In Pickering, Linguist is bringing in a coach who's shown considerable recruiting prowess -- particularly as an offensive analyst across multiple seasons at Texas -- as well as more recently serving as offensive coordinator at Norfolk State.

Pickering, who also has coached at Alabama State and Jones Junior College, has extensive experience at the high school level as well.

As Linguist enters Year 4, Buffalo is preparing to open its 2024 season with one of the earliest games in college football -- an Aug. 29 date against Lafayette before a Sept. 7 showdown at reigning Cotton Bowl champion Missouri.
