Marshall continues to invest in its football program, particularly as the Thundering Herd rediscover national success under Charles Huff.
Now the Herd are adding a key piece to their off-the-field support staff for Huff’s football program: a new director of on-campus recruiting.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Huff is adding Braelyn Yown to the Marshall staff as the program’s on-campus recruiting coordinator.
Yown comes to Marshall after climbing through the ranks at Coastal Carolina in the Chanticleers’ recruiting department, where she first worked as an undergraduate intern and assistant.
Huff’s Herd program enters 2023 among the hottest teams in Football Bowls Subdivision play. In addition to their stunning upset at then-top 20 Notre Dame in the season’s opening month, the Herd also closed the 2022 campaign with five-straight victories – punctuated by a win against Jim Mora’s UConn squad in the postseason.
Marshall opens its upcoming campaign at home against the University of Albany, an Football Championship Subdivision foe, before battling regional rivals East Carolina and Virginia Tech in compelling intersectional games. In addition to the Herd’s conference slate, they also have an October date with Atlantic Coast Conference program North Carolina State.
Huff’s success at Marshall hardly went unnoticed on the heels of the ’22 breakthrough, with the former Alabama, Penn State and Vanderbilt assistant needing to replace several key members of his staff – on and off the field. Marshall has a new defensive coordinator, tight ends coach and multiple new members of recruiting and operations staff heading into Huff’s third season in Huntington, West Virginia.
