Sources:  Greg Schiano finds key new recruiting staffer for Rutgers' football program (Kayli Johnson)

It's a key fourth season for Greg Schiano in his return to Rutgers as Schiano seeks to recapture his previous record-setting success atop the Scarlett Knights' program.

And as Schiano tries to enhance the recruiting efforts of the Scarlett Knights in the rugged and set-for-expansion Big Ten, he's got a new assistant director of recruiting operations.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Kayli Johnson is headed to New Jersey after accepting the assistant director of recruiting operations for Rutgers University football.

Most recently, Johnson spent 2022 in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, where she was an stadium operations intern with the franchise.

A Michigan State graduate who earned her master's degree from Texas Tech University, Johnson also has past football experience at both of those programs.

At Tech, Johnson served in both the Red Raiders' football recruiting and operations departments. During her undergraduate work at Michigan State, Johnson served in the football program as a student-assistant.

Rutgers has posted a combined 9-16 record the past two seasons under Schiano, who returned to the program prior to the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.

The Scarlet Knights earned a bowl berth after the 2021 season due to the program's success in the classroom with its Academic Progress Rate, but Rutgers has not posted a winning record in Schiano's three seasons.

From 2005-11, Schiano guided Rutgers to six winning records in seven seasons before he leaped to a head coaching opportunity in the NFL.

Schiano returned to Rutgers after time running the defense at Ohio State.

Now Rutgers enters a crucial Year 4 under Schiano as it tries to climb from the bottom of the Big Ten standings. The Scarlet Knights open their 2023 campaign with three consecutive home games against Northwestern, Temple and Virginia Tech before traveling to face two-time defending Big Ten champion Michigan.
