Roosevelt Williams was drafted into the NFL after an All-America career at HBCU program Tuskegee University.
Now, Williams is headed back to the NFL.
Sources tell FootballScoop Tuesday that Williams is accepting a role with the New York Jets and the franchise's new head coach, Aaron Glenn -- a former star defensive back.
Williams, most recently the cornerbacks coach at Houston Christian University, will be a defensive assistant for the Jets.
He's also coached at Hardin-Simmons University and logged multiple NFL internships earlier in his coaching career. Those opportunities came with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and then-San Diego Chargers.
As a player, Williams spent time with the Bears - who took him in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft -- as well as with the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns. He also played in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The Jets hired Glenn last month away from his post as defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Glenn had been an consistent, emerging head coaching target in multiple recent cycles -- at both the NFL and collegiate levels.
