Matt Kitchens will be the new defensive coordinator at Central Arkansas, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.
Kitchens is currently the special teams coordinator and safeties coach at South Alabama, who concluded a 4-7 season on Saturday. Head coach Steve Campbell, a former UCA head coach, has since been relieved of duties.
Prior to his three season in Mobile, Kitchens was on Campbell's UCA staff from 2015-17. The Bears went 27-9 and 24-3 in Southland Conference play during that time.
Kitchens is a Russellville native who began his college football career as a player and GA at Arkansas Tech.
He will replace Chad Williams, who is set to join Will Hall's new staff at Southern Miss.
Central Arkansas was among the handful of FCS programs that forged its own fall season rather than waiting for the spring. The Bears played in the first college football game of 2020, a 24-17 win over Austin Peay, and went 5-4 on the year, including a 4-2 mark against FCS competition.
