Samford's Andrew Gray lands Big Ten opportunity (Andrew Gray)

After three seasons on Chris Hatcher's Samford staff, Andrew Gray is heading a bit closer to home, sources tell FootballScoop.

Gray, a former standout player at the University of South Dakota, is exiting his role as Samford's cornerbacks coach to become an defensive analyst for David Braun's Northwestern Wildcats program.

Braun and Gray have a shared history from their respective time in the Missouri Valley Conference. In fact, Braun coached against Gray in 2018 when Braun was Northern Iowa's defensive coordinator and Gray was wrapping up his two-time All-MVC career.

Prior to his stint under Hatcher at Samford, Gray had a one-year run as a defensive assistant at the University of Sioux Falls.

After a surprising eight-win 2023 campaign that saw Braun go from interim coach to the program's full-time leader, Northwestern is set to open its 2024 season Aug. 31 at home against Miami (Ohio) before facing Duke in an ACC-Big Ten matchup the following week.
