Trent Bray continues his focus on the future of Oregon State football -- both on the recruiting trail, with the early signing period for the 2024 class opening next week, and as Bray keeps compiling his inaugural staff.
Bray made official on Tuesday a handful of moves designed to position Oregon State for the future.
The Beavers have elected to elevate Jon Boyer from an senior offensive quality control position that focused on Boyer's work with the quarterbacks to coach the OSU tight ends moving forward under Bray.
Already a coaching veteran with more than 15 years' experience, Bray also has been tabbed to run Oregon State's offense in the program's upcoming El Paso Sun Bowl game against Notre Dame.
Bray also has made official the move to have A.J. Cooper oversee inside linebackers while Ilaisa Tuiaki has been pegged to coach the Beavers defensive line.
Also, Bray revealed that he has charged Mike McHugh to become the program's director of football operations; Todd McShane has been tabbed to run Oregon State's personnel department.
Sources indicated that Boyer had been offered an opportunity to follow departed coach Jonathan Smith to Michigan State. The former Northern Colorado standout-quarterback and offensive coordinator also had heard from a rival PAC-12 program this coaching cycle, a source shared with FootballScoop.
Cooper worked this past season at Sacramento State after he had earlier served in the Oregon State program as a graduate assistant coach.
Tuiaki has extensive experience on the defensive side of the ball, including recent work as defensive coordinator for Kalani Sitake's BYU program.
