After kicking the can down the road twice last week, NCAA leadership made a decision on Thursday. All fall championships have been canceled.
The NCAA Board of Governors deferred the decision to each division last week, and Divisions II and III promptly canceled theirs. Division I held out, establishing that a championship would be held if 50 percent of each sport's membership fielded a season.
The FCS quickly fell below that threshold, and on Thursday the 12th and 13th FCS conferences canceled their seasons.
Six of 10 FBS leagues are still pressing forward with football, but there will be no soccer, cross country or volleyball championships for those teams, meaning football could be the only team on campus still attempting a season. The FBS postseason, of course, is staged outside of the NCAA structure.
Power 5 conferences have held discussions about staging their own championships in fall sports, but it's to be determined if that comes to fruition.
