Mississippi Valley State hires SEC coaching veteran Terrell Buckley as new head coach (xfl)

As Mississippi Valley State gets ready for a rebuild after a 1-11 season, they've appointed a College Football Hall of Famer, Super Bowl champion, and veteran assistant with stops in the SEC as their new head coach.

Terrell Buckley was recently announced as the new head coach of the Delta Devils.

A coaching veteran with two stops in the SEC, where he coached the corners for Dan Mullen and Joe Moorhead at Mississippi State before moving on to Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin,

Most recently, Buckley served as a head coach in the XFL with the Orlando Guardians during the league's one season in 2023.

Previous stops as an assistant include Akron and Louisville before landing in the SEC.

A Jim Thorpe Award winner as the top defensive back in college football during his time at Florida State, where he was also a unanimous All American, Buckley would go on to be a top five pick in the 1992 NFL Draft and would have nine stops in the NFL. He would help the Patriots to a Super Bowl XXXVI title during the 2001-02 season.

The native of Pascagoula, MS brings a 1-9 record leading the XFL's Guardians to his first head coaching opportunity at the college level.
