The Southwest Community College (Mississippi) football program has begun making changes following a second-straight winless season and one of the longest losing streaks in the nation.
The Bears, losers by at least 11 points in all six of their South Division games this season, are mired in a 23-game losing streak that dates back to Week 2 of the 2018 season.
Sources told FootballScoop.com on Wednesday that the school has parted ways with Tim Stowers just days after Southwest concluded the winless season in a 40-3 homecoming loss to visiting Mississippi Gulf Coast.
An Auburn graduate and former Auburn assistant under Pat Dye, Stowers guided Georgia Southern to a national championship after he took over that program from Paul Johnson. He had been atop the Bears' football program for three years, and, though he won his first game as head coach, did not register another win during that time.
Also on the Bears' 2020 staff were defensive coordinator Corey Barlow, defensive line coach Trevor Stigers, defensive backs coach Dominique Sullivan and quarterbacks coach Matt Wannebo. Stowers, who guided Georgia Southern to the 1990 FCS title after he took over the program from Paul Johnson served as his own offensive coordinator. Their futures with the program are uncertain at this time, according to sources.
