LSU coach Brian Kelly says beloved assistant Jimmy Lindsey soon to be released from hospital (Jimmy Lindsey)

Winding through the early stages of preseason camp in advance of its much-anticipated season-opening tilt against fellow top-10 team Florida State, LSU got a bit of good news Tuesday.

Second-year Tigers head coach Brian Kelly updated the status of veteran defensive assistant Jimmy Lindsey, who's in his first season on the bayou but has been a beloved staple in the sport for years.

Last week, Lindsey was rushed to a Baton Rouge, Lousiana-area hospital due to a medical emergency, and Lindsey has remained hospitalized since that time.

Kelly offered hope in his latest update.

"We've gotten great reports, you know, Jimmy, I believe, is going to be released from the hospital either today or it's really soon," Kelly said. "There's a long road of recovery ahead for him, and then there's, you know, other things that he's going to have to handle that are personal and private for the family that they're going to have to deal with."

Kelly, hired Lindsey away from peer SEC institution South Carolina earlier this year, further expounded on his optimism for Lindsey.

"Very encouraging, just the fact that I'm able to talk about it in terms of leaving the hospital," Kelly said. "Really happy for Jimmy and certainly Lauren, his wife, who's been there by his side every day.

"A good bit of news there that we were able to get (Monday)."

The Tigers, preseason No. 4 in the AFCA/USA Today Coaches Top 25 preseason poll, are little more than three weeks away from opening their 2023 campaign against Florida State, the ACC's top-ranked team at No. 8 and coming off a resurgent 10-win campaign.
