Following the departure of Mike Brown to Notre Dame, Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo brought in former Buckeyes quarterback Kenny Guiton to fill their receivers role.
Guiton spent the past three seasons coaching the wideouts at Arkansas, and was elevated to the interim offensive coordinator role last fall following the in-season dismissal of Dan Enos.
Now almost through spring ball in Madison, Guiton is tasked with molding a receiver room that is entering a critical year two of the transition from the ground-and-pound NFL style offense to the uptempo and wide open approach of Longo.
Guiton met with reporters recently to update the progress of the receivers this off season and in one of his interactions shared that part of his focus is removing words and phrases from his new players vocabulary.
"One thing we don't do - we don't say 'almost.' We don't say 'Oh, that was close,' and things of that nature. It's either we got it done, or we didn't."
"We are really going to take ownership of that and understand the best ones are going to get the majority of that."
My late grandfather, who served in the Marines, often used the phrase "almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" and that's the same sentiment Guiton seems to be trying to get across with his guys.
Guiton also intentionally hammered on the importance of consistency from his guys a number of times throughout his media availability.
