Teaching Open Gap vs. Closed Gap Doubles in Duo Runs: The success of the Duo concept is strictly tied to the movements created on double teams at the line of scrimmage. While some coaches subscribe purely to teaching gap scheme principles in their Duo play, the staff at Minnesota Duluth has found a unique way of implementing its open-gap and closed-gap combination principles used in the inside zone with its Duo scheme. The difference lies in the backside combination in Duo works to the running back’s read. That’s why a great deal of time is spent teaching linemen to understand departure angles when working to the second level. Duluth may be one of the only programs in the Midwest that doesn’t run an A-gap power play, so offensive line coach Loren Endsley teaches Duo with zone principles and provides perhaps one of our most detailed installs on the concept. SLAM! (NV): SLAM! NV is looking for an opponent for the Arizona Classic to be played at the NAU Walkup Skydome on the weekend of 9/6/24 and 9/7/24. SLAM! NV is a non tuitional public charter school that competes in the Southern Nevada 3A classification. We have an enrollment of approximately 640 high school students. Hamilton (AZ): Noel Mazzone, who last spring was set to call the offense for two programs, has been named the new offensive coordinator at the Arizona power.
Kirksville (MO): Former Truman State (D-II - MO) head coach Gregg Nesbitt, who retired back in February, is returning to the high school level as the head coach at Kirksville. He had a 89-59 record at Truman State, and previously led Columbia Hickman HS (MO) for 13 seasons.
Smithville (TX): Fort Bend Ridge Point (TX) co-offensive coordinator Layne Neumann has been hired as the next athletic director and head coach.
Harlandale (San Antonio, TX): San Antonio Johnson (TX) wide receivers coach Justin Lozano is the new head coach.
Harriton (PA): Mario Dattilo has been appointed head coach.
Wittman (AZ): Former Oregon State wide receiver Kevan Walker, the son of college coaching veteran DeWayne Walker, is the new offensive coordinator and he's joined by former Oregon State offensive lineman Rory Ross as the new offensive line coach for the program.
