Eddie George, Tennessee State hire new OC (Travis Partridge)

Again, Eddie George has his new offensive coordinator at Tennessee State.

The Tigers are hiring Travis Partridge away from Ohio Valley Conference rival UT-Martin, which in recent years under head coach Jason Simpson & Co. has enjoyed record-setting experience on the football field.

Partridge, now another member in Simpson's remarkably long and diverse coaching tree, has previously worked at Big 12 program Kansas.

Sources told FootballScoop that Partridge formally signed his contract with TSU, experiencing an athletics renaissance under Nashville native and high-energy athletics director Mikki Allen, Thursday evening.

Partridge logged the previous three seasons under Simpson at Martin, where he served as the program's quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

He also will coach quarterbacks for the Tigers, who are coming off their first winning season since 2017 and have fortified their roster as well as devoted unprecedented resources into the program as George, the former Ohio State Heisman winner and longtime Tennessee Titans star tailback in the NFL, enters into his fourth season atop the TSU program.

The Tigers made history last fall; in addition to their six-win breakthrough-campaign, they also became the first HBCU program to ever play a game at storied Notre Dame.

That contest featured two head coaches, George and Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman, who were both Ohio State alums.

Patridge, who was on staff a total of three years at Kansas, also had a brief professional career, first signing a free agent deal with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and then playing in the CFL with the B.C. Lions.

Partridge replaces Tyler Roehl, the former North Dakota State star assistant coach who joined the TSU staff for approximately a month and then vaulted to an Power Conference opportunity on Matt Campbell's Iowa State staff.

Tennessee State is set to open its 2024 season Aug. 31 at home against Mississippi Valley State.
