Coastal Carolina fills offensive coordinator job with architect of a top passing offense (Western Kentucky)

UPDATE >> Coastal Carolina has formally announced this.

At Western Kentucky, Tyson Helton has been known to throw the ball all around the yard and that was a great fit for Drew Hollingshead, who joined the Hilltoppers staff two seasons ago as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Hollingshead, a former AFCA 35 under 35 selection, previously worked under Mike Leach at Mississippi State and Washington State and this past season helped WKU quarterback Caden Veltkamp capture Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Now, he's reportedly set to don the teal of the Chanticleers as their new offensive play caller.

Pete Thamel shares this morning that Hollingshead is set to join the Coastal Carolina staff of Tim Beck as his new offensive coordinator.

This past season, the Hilltoppers had the top ranked passing offense in Conference USA and ranked among the top 15 passing offenses in all of college football.

With an extensive background in the Air Raid, Hollingshead spent three seasons on staff with Leach at Mississippi State and was also part of his staff at Washington State from 2016-19 in a number of roles as well.

He takes over a Coastal Carolina offense that ranked in the middle of college football in scoring and 95th nationally in passing offense after a disappointing 6-7 season.
