Bob Shoop, once one of college football's most-heralded defensive coordinators with Power Conference experience at Penn State, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Miami and Michigan, has been elevated to the role of assistant head coach, in addition to Shoop's role as safeties coach.
Also, affable running backs coach Telly Lockette has added the title of associate head coach.
Lockette has been dynamic in his role tutoring the Thundering Herd running backs, with one of his pupils each season ranking in the top-25 nationally, per Marshall, and having at least one thousand-yard rusher per year.
"Coach Lockett has been a part of our staff since we got here and has been a consistent presence not only on the field and in recruiting, but in our community as well," fourth-year Marshall coach Charles Huff said in a statement. "His experience and expertise in this profession is second to none.
"Combining that with his ability to connect with all of our staff and players to keep continuity and consistency running high gives him the ability to support me and the vision of our program."
Added Huff of Shoop, "Coach Shoop has been coaching at a high level for. avery long time, and his knowledge and experience is truly valued and respected by our entire organization. Having him as a sounding board for me will allow us to continue to close the gap on the top teams in college football."
Entering a pivotal fourth season at the helm, Huff has generated consistent success in his role as Marshall's head coach. The program has advanced to a trio of bowl games, upset then-top 10 Notre Dame in 2022 and also toppled Virginia Tech, among other notable victories.
Marshall opens its 2024 season against FCS program Stony Brook before a trio of demanding contests against Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Western Michigan.
