After road win, Kiffin says 'It felt like a high school game' in near-empty stadium (Ole Miss)

His quarterback had set a record for consecutive completions in a program synonymous with the name Manning.

His top wideout shattered a couple all-time receiving records as well.

Then, after his Ole Miss team notched its largest Southeastern Conference win in six years, 54-21 Saturday at Vanderbilt, Lane Kiffin struck once more in his postgame press conference when asked about his players' energy level.

“I usually don't talk about the coaches, but I think the coaches did a really good job with that,” Kiffin said. “Talked about that all week, especially (Saturday) morning.

“You know, no fans here for the most part at all. I was joking on the headset that it felt like a high school game when the high school team goes and plays at the college stadium.”

Hosting its third-consecutive home game, Vanderbilt drew an announced crowd of just 840 fans, the first time it dipped below at least 1,200 fans; it's the lowest of the season for both Vanderbilt and the SEC.

The Rebels had more than 15,000 last week in their controversial homecoming loss against Auburn and had nearly as many fans two weeks prior in a shootout-loss against No. 2 Alabama.

How his team had played against the Tide was what Kiffin had urged for Saturday against the winless Commodores.

“Thought our coaches did a good job getting guys to have great energy, bring great energy,” Kiffin said. “I said [to players], 'Hey, why don't you have the same energy you had when we played Alabama? Let's really go out there today like that.' And I thought our guys did.”

Matt Corral completed his first 19 passes for the Rebels, breaking Eli Manning's 19-year-old record; Corral's 31-for-34 final line also matched the SEC's all-time accuracy record at 91.2, equaling former Tennessee quarterback Joss Dobbs' mark.
