In his first year on the job, Kevin Stefanski has led the Cleveland Browns to the club's second playoff berth since its 1999 rebirth, but Stefanski have to keep waiting before he actually coaches his team in their first playoff game.
The Browns announced Tuesday that Stefanski, along with two unnamed assistants and two unnamed players, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer will serve as acting head coach.
Stefanski was on the sidelines for Cleveland's 24-22 win over Pittsburgh, which clinched the Browns' playoff berth and forced this immediate rematch in Pittsburgh.
Cleveland's 11-5 record is the club's best since 1994, a Bill Belichick-led campaign that saw the team's most recent playoff victory -- a 20-13 triumph over, ironically, the New England Patriots. Cleveland lost the divisional round game to the Steelers, and their only playoff trip between 1994 and 2020, in 2002, also ended in a loss to the Steelers.
