Virginia Tech will go all black for Frank Beamer's last home game

It's not very often that a program makes an official announcement on their website regarding what uniforms they'll be wearing for the final two games of the season, but then again, it's also uncommon to witness a man like Frank Beamer coach in his final game before his retirement.

According to HokieSports, "based on feedback from Hokies’ student-athletes, head coach Frank Beamer has blessed his players’ wishes to wear a black helmet and uniform combination for Saturday’s game vs. North Carolina." The Hokies will then wear a retro 1987 road look against Virginia next weekend from Beamer's inaugural season leading the program.

"This has been a very responsible group that has worked extrememly hard," Beamer explained. "They haven’t asked me for one thing this season. When they approached me and asked to wear the black uniforms for our final home game, I had no problem with it. If it makes it more fun for them, I’m good with it.”

Soon after that started to circulate around Twitter, images of the all black look started to emerge. The helmets will have the VT logo on one side, and the other side will feature the number 25 - the number that Beamer wore as a player.

The Hokies wore an all black look before with these Nike Pro Combat uniforms, but the new look for the UNC game is quite a bit different.

Saturday will mark Beamer's 180th and final game on the sideline at Lane Stadium.
