Video: Ohio State RBs coach Tony Alford calls the parents of one his players and delivers great news (mike weber)

Think back to the last dozen times you called the parents of one of your students or players. How many of those occasions were to deliver positive news?

If you're like most coaches and educators, chances are not many.

Well Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford placed a phone call recently to the parents of Mike Weber, one of the many Buckeye running backs battling to fill the big shoes of Ezekiel Elliot who is now with the Dallas Cowboys.

This phone call wasn't your typical negative phone call home to a player's parents though about a disciplinary issue, or something else negative, instead it was to let Weber's parents know that he was being named the starter of what Urban Meyer calls "the Cadillac" of positions at Ohio State because of the history elite running backs that have come out of Columbus.

The reaction that the parents on the other end of the line give serves as a great reminder to all of us coaches to pick up the phone and share good news when its warranted. If you're also a teacher, do the same with your students.

A phone call like this can be a special thing that parents, players, and prospective recruits, will never forget. It's a five minute phone call that can mean the world to someone.
