Last week, Deion Sanders shared a post on X saying he was looking for a bank in Boulder in Denver that "wants to have a business relationship with a few members of our team."
During a week where the program was in the headlines for a former assistant exploring relationships with the Mormon community and Saudi Arabia's Private Investment fund to bolster their NIL coffers, it was easy to see that tweet and just think that Prime was looking to connect his players with more NIL opportunities.
But like most things with Prime, that initial thought turned out to be something rather different.
He wasn't looking for NIL relationships. Instead he was looking to make a meaningful impact with players on his team that are carrying the responsibilities of a father in addition to their duties as a student athlete.
At a team meeting, Sanders called up a handful of guys that are fathers, as well as a player with a kid on the way, sat them in front of their teammates, and delivered an impactful message.
"A child is not a mistake. A child is an opportunity to mature you, grow you, advance you, and give you some skills," opens up by saying.
Deion goes on to share how being a good father is one of the top things he looks for in assistant coaches on his staff, noting that he would "never hire a man who says he's going to look after ya'll but he won't look after his."
With help with the 5430 Alliance, CU's NIL initiative, Elevations Credit Union stepped up to answer Prime's call and they set up accounts for children of the student athletes that Prime called to the front of the room.
Each child got a 529 Savings Plan created, with (a very intentional) $2,121 deposited to start the account.
