The 40-team field has been selected for the Division III playoff.
28 of the teams earned automatic bids by winning their league with 12 teams selected to receive at-large invitations based on their records and overall resume that include winning percentage, strength of schedule, and quality wins.
11 of the 40 teams finished their respective regular seasons with perfect 10-0 records.
In addition to the plethora of 1 and 2-loss teams, the bracket also found room for a 5-3 Mary-Hardin Baylor (TX) squad and a 5-5 Alfred State (NY) team.
First-round byes were secured by Saint John's (MN), Lake Forest (IL), North Central (IL), Hardin-Simmons (TX), DePauw (IN), Salisbury (MD), and Mount Union.
The rest of the field will play their first-round games this weekend, with second-round games set to take place November 30th.
Last year, SUNY Cortland (NY) won a close game against defending national champion North Central (IL) 38-37 to win the school's first ever national title.
The Division III national championship game has rotated locations the since 2019, and this year's national title game is set to take place in Houston, Texas.
