Sources: Jason Eck adding former MAC OC to New Mexico staff (Ball State)

After program-record success in recent seasons atop the FCS Idaho Vandals program, Jason Eck is looking to continue to climb in his first FBS job -- leading New Mexico.

And sources tell FootballScoop that Eck is making a key hire to bring a veteran, former offensive play-caller to his inaugural New Mexico staff.

Jared Elliott is joining Eck's staff as the program's tight ends coach, multiple sources tell FootballScoop.

He's a former co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Ball State, where he also previously had the passing game coordinator title.

Additionally, Elliott has experience as a head coach; he led the FCS Western Illinois program for six seasons. Elliott also has experience at Miami (Ohio), his alma mater where he played quarterback and wideout before transitioning into coaching.

Eck has taken over at New Mexico after winning 19 games the past two seasons at Idaho and advancing both years into the FCS Quarterfinals. He also guided the Vandals into the 2022 FCS Playoffs.

He was hired last month to replace Bronco Mendenhall, who left after one season to take over at Utah State.

New Mexico is scheduled to open its 2025 season Aug. 30 at Michigan before hosting Eck's former rival, Idaho State, a week later to kick off its home slate.
