After two seasons back on staff at his alma mater, Appalachian State, as an offensive quality control coach, Trey Kavanaugh is making another move in his coaching climb, sources tell FootballScoop.
Kavanaugh is joining the Wingate University staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Kavanaugh will be an offensive assistant for second-year Wingate head coach Rashaan Jordan -- the school's long-tenured defensive coordinator who was promoted to head coach following the 2023 season.
Longtime Bulldogs head coach Joe Reich transitioned to become the school's athletics director last November and promptly elevated his loyal assistant to the head coach's post.
Kavanaugh has head coaching experience at the prep level, serving atop Charlotte, North Carolina-area program Cuthbertson High School before returning to join the Mountaineers' staff prior to the 2022 season.
A former wideout at App State, Cuthbertson joins a Wingate program that advanced to record success in recent years under Reich and is looking to continue to climb ahead after an 8-3 2023 season.
The NCAA Division II Bulldogs, who finished last season on a four-game winning streak, compete in the South Atlantic Conference.
