SMU assistant head coach / special teams coordinator Chris Brasfield has enjoyed a coaching career that has taken him from a high school coach in Texas and Illinois to opportunities at programs like Nebraska, TCU and Oregon State.
While in Corvallis in 2012, Brasfield was recognized as one of the top recruiters in college football.
In January of 2018, he got the opportunity to return to his Texas roots coaching the running backs on Sonny Dykes' SMU staff.
Now, Brasfield is embarking on a new journey, with a higher calling.
In a statement provided by Brasfield, he shares the following about his next chapter:
"Beginning September of 2021, I will be transitioning into full-time ministry. For those who know me and my family, this is an exciting time. Our faith and creating community has always been a priority for us. We are looking forward to serving people wherever there is a need."
"If I or my family can ever partner with any of you to serve the greater goods of others, please don't hesitate to ask."
Brasfield goes on to share that the remainder of his time with the SMU program will be as a senior analyst / special assistant to the head coach.
The other day, SMU announced the promotion of former Kansas defensive coordinator Kenny Perry to the special teams post being vacated by Brasfield. Perry spent last year as analyst on staff and prior to that was coaching in the XFL on Bob Stoops' staff with the Dallas Renegades.
