When Shane Beamer landed the job at South Carolina, the Gamecocks were on the hook for a $15 million buyout for firing Will Muschamp. The two parties would later agree to a reduced buyout of $12.9 million.
Having the benefit of looking back on his results through his first two seasons, and with a bunch of money tied up in that buyout, South Carolina signed Shane Beamer to a steal of a deal with a wait-and-see approach.
Beamer, who landed the job with limited coordinator experience after serving as assistant head coach and tight ends coach Oklahoma, initially signed a five-year deal worth about $2.75 million annually.
But after winning seven games in year one, and eight games in year two - including two top ten wins over Tennessee and Clemson - the worst kept secret in college football was that Shane Beamer was going to enter this fall making more money.
The question was just how much more.
Chris Low of ESPN tweets today that Beamer is set for a massive raise.
After making $2.75 million last season, Low shares that Beamer is set for a raise to the $6.5 million range.
Beamer is 15-11 through two seasons, and the Gamecocks have some significant momentum throughout the program heading into the fall of 2023.
The report adds that there is a board meeting Friday to approve the deal.
