Report: Ed Orgeron and LSU working on contract extension (LSU)

According to a report from Nola.com, Ed Orgeron and LSU are working on a contract extension, with the details currently being finalized.

In his two-full seasons as head coach, Orgeron has compiled a 19-7 record, finishing 3rd or better in the SEC West each season. His first season he led the program to a 9-4 mark and an appearance in the Citrus Bowl, and this year the Tigers finished 10-3 with a 40-32 win in the New Years Six Fiesta Bowl over UCF - who had carried the nation's longest win streak into the game.

The 10-win season this past fall was the best record LSU has had since 2013, when they also won 10 games.

The 2016 season, Oregeron led the program on an interim basis following the dismissal of Les Miles. Orgeron went 6-2 in his eight games in charge, finishing tied for second place in the SEC West, and earned a trip to the Citrus Bowl - which they won over Louisville 29-9. They finished the season ranked in the top 15, and Orgeron shed the interim tag shortly after.

Orgeron's current deal runs through 2021 and pays him $3.5 million annually, and is also loaded with about $1.5 million in incentives. That compensation is good for ninth among his SEC coaching colleagues - behind Nick Saban (Alabama - $8.3 million), Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M - $7.5 million), Gus Malzahn (Auburn - $6.7 million), Kirby Smart (Georgia - $6.6 million), Dan Mullen (Florida - $6.1 million), Will Muschamp (South Carolina - $4.2 million), Mark Stoops (Kentucky - $4 million), and Jeremy Pruitt (Tennessee - $3.8 million).

Coach O's annual compensation puts him at 36th nationally among his coaching peers, right between Chad Morris (Arkansas) and Matt Campbell (Iowa State).

His current two-way buyout with LSU calls for $6 million this year, then drops to $4.5 million in 2020 and drops down to $1 million by 2021.

The details on this one don't look like they'll be out anytime soon, as the report shares that the next Board of Supervisors meeting is March 15th.
