Seth Littrell and North Texas have been working on a contract extension for a few months now, and according to the Denton Record-Chronicle, the two sides are close to finalizing the details.
Littrell is 23-17 since taking over the Mean Green, leading the program back-to-back 9-win seasons the past two years, and bowl berths in each of his three seasons with the program. He was rumored to be a hot candidate this past off season for a few jobs, including the opening at Kansas State.
After the 2017 seaason, Littrell signed aaa contract extension taking him through the 2022 season and paying him just over $1.4 million annually - which ranks him as the highest paid coach in the C-USA by about $300k, according to the USA Salary Database.
Athletic director Wren Baker shared just how important it is for them to continue to invest in the Littrell and the football program by sharing, "“It’s important to continue to invest in football. We will continue to do that so that we are competitive not only in Conference USA, but also in the Group of Five.”
The new deal is expected to include a nice bump of $500,000 for his staff of on-field assistants and support personnel as well.
This off season, Littrell lost four assistants to opportunities at the Power Five level (none more high profile than offensive coordinator Graham Harrell to USC to be the Trojans new offensive coordinator) and also decided to make one change on the defensive side of ball at corners.
