Michael Vick is reportedly in the mix for FCS head coaching opening (Norfolk State)

The list of former NFL standouts making the jump to Division I head coach already includes well known personalities like Deion Sanders (Colorado) and Eddie George (Tennessee State).

With the quick success each has had, it was only a matter of time before other schools copied the approach.

Bethune Cookman (FCS - FL) was extremely close to having legendary Ravens safety Ed Reed step in to lead their football program before things fell apart.

Michel Vick, who has no formal coaching experience, is now the latest to potentially join that conversation.

The Virginian-Pilot notes that Vick has interviewed for the head coaching job at Norfolk State (FCS - VA).

Conversations began when administration at the school reached out to him to gauge his interest in their vacancy.

The 13-year NFL veteran and product of Newport News says the opportunity to give back to the Hampton Roads community that has long supported him is something he is intrigued by.

Vick, who is on the 2025 ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame, shared with The Virginian-Pilot he would build out a seasoned staff that would help his transition to the head coaching job.

At Norfolk State, he would replace Dawson Odums, who was let go back in late November after a 15-31 record in his four seasons at the helm.

Back when the Alliance of American Football was still going (March 2018 - April 2019) in an half-hearted effort to have football in the spring, Vick had been lined up to serve as offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Legends organization, but ended up serving in an advisor role instead.

He's spent his time since retiring in 2017 as an NFL analyst with Fox Sports, as well as Fox NFL Kickoff and contributes to FS1's NFL coverage.
