Miami and Mario Cristobal are reportedly targeting a newly-minted Big 12 coordinator for a spot on the defensive staff.
Houston defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge is being pursued for the Hurricanes opening at defensive back, CBS Sports shares.
Over the weekend, Houston announced a promotion for the rising coach, adding the pass game coordinator title to the former AFCA 35 Under 35 selection. Etheridge helped the Cougars rank among the top 3 passing defenses in the league this past fall.
The former Auburn defensive back served as associate head coach and secondary coach at his alma mater during the 2022 and 2023 seasons after initially joining the staff as secondary coach in 2021.
While in the SEC, Etheridge was considered one of the top recruiters in the league and he helped coach and develop a number of NFL Draft picks while on The Plains.
Earlier stops in his coaching career include graduate assistant jobs at Penn State and Georgia Tech before moving on to Western Carolina (FCS) and Louisiana.
