With the recent departure of Terps running backs coach Elijah Brooks for the same job at Virginia Tech, Mike Locksley had himself a spot a open on the offensive staff.
According to a report from Adam Rittenberg today, Locksley is targeting a former FCS head coach to fill the vacancy.
Latrell Scott, who spent last season at East Carolina coaching their tight ends, is being targeting for the Terps running backs coach, Rittenberg shares.
The report adds that "a deal is not done, but could be soon."
Scott has FCS head coaching experience with one season at Richmond, two seasons at Virginia State, and five seasons leading the Norfolk State program.
At 34 years old and the youngest head coach in Division I football, he took over for Mike London at Richmond and went 6-5 overall.
At Virginia Stat he put together a 9-1 season and 10-2 season in 2013 and 2014, and then left for Norfolk State, where they struggled to four straight 4-7 finishes before a 5-7 season in his final year with the program.
Scott left for a position on the ECU staff heading into the 2021 season.
