After parting ways back in late September of 2016, LSU and Les Miles have finally agreed on a settlement.
Miles agreed to take a one-time lump sum payment of $1.5 million. $6.5 million remained on the original agreement which LSU would have had until 2023 to pay out. The $6.5 million remaining would have been reduced dollar for dollar by any earnings Miles received.
Director of athletics Joe Alleva noted in his a release that conversations with Miles and those that represent him have been ongoing for several weeks, and the settlement means that everyone can now "move on."
"It’s time for both parties to move forward. One of the challenges of the buyout that was in place was there just wasn’t a lot of incentive to move on to other things. We were looking to provide that and Coach Miles and his representatives also were ready. It was a mutually agreed upon goal and a very positive process from beginning to end.”
“Coach Miles has always been positive about our program and has consistently supported our student athletes and our coaches. He will always be part of the great history of LSU football and I wish him and his family nothing but the very best.”
Does this mean that one of the hurdles has been removed in Miles coming back to the college football sidelines. Could we see the Mad Hatter in Jayhawks gear soon? The timing is certainly interesting...
Of course, the other openings in major college football are Bowling Green, Maryland, and Louisville, with the Browns being the only opening at the NFL level.
