Lance Leipold's epic run as the head coach at UW-Whitewater from 2007-2014 before making the jump to the FBS level at Buffalo and then Kansas is well documented.
109-6 with six national titles in seven total trips, and a 53-3 mark in conference play is as impressive as it gets.
The same year that Leipold landed the Whitewater job, Pat Cerroni was elevated from assistant coach to head coach at UW-Oshkosh, and he and Leipold would soon square off in some epic clashes.
Pat immediately went 7-3 that first season, with a third-place finish in the WIAC before a trio of four-win seasons.
Then their breakout season came in 2012 - the only season Leipold's squad missed the playoffs. That season, he led the Titans to the WIAC title and Division III semis, and once Leipold left UW-Whitewater for Buffalo, Cerroni's Titans fought their way to the top spot in the league.
They would go on to win the conference three of the next five seasons and making deep playoff runs in 2015, 2016, and 2017 including an appearance in the Stagg Bowl in 2016.
Now, the two former conference adversaries are set to reunite in Lawrence.
Jeff Potrykus shares that Cerroni has joined Leipold's support staff.
FootballScoop can confirm the move.
Cerroni led the UW-Oshkosh program from 2007-2021, compiling an impressive 109-45 record with four conference titles and a 12-5 mark in the Division III playoffs.
He announced his retirement in November of 2021 after a 6-3 season.
