After cruising to a 41-18 victory over South Carolina yesterday, Kentucky has announced some changes on the offensive side of the ball.
Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach / co offensive coordinator Darin Hinshaw have been let go.
The school has announced the moves, and head coach Mark Stoops shared that is something they've been weighing for a few weeks.
"Eddie and I pondered about this for weeks and mutually agreed that this was the way to move forward. I appreciate Eddie for the true professional and friend that he is," Stoops shared
In a statement, Gran, who joined the staff in 2016 along with Hinshaw after a few seasons working together on the Cincinnati staff, shared the following:
โI want to thank President Eli Capilouto, Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and, of course, Coach Stoops for the opportunity to be at Kentucky. Coach Stoops has always treated me like family and our professional relationship is awesome."
About a year ago, Gran inked a contract extension taking him through through June 2023, that included a raise to $950k that would have been paid over that final year. Hinshaw also agreed to a new deal recently, as back in July he signed a new two-year deal that paid him $500k annually through June of 2022. UK looks to be on the hook for $2.35 million to Gran and $750k to Hinshaw, according to Kentucky Sports.
Gran has been in the coaching profession for over three decades, with stops coordinating offenses at Florida State and Cincinnati, as well as special teams coordinating experience and working with running backs and wide receivers at Ole Miss, Auburn, and Tennessee.
Hinshaw linked up with Gran in Cinci in 2013, and prior to that had held coordinator titles at Georgia Southern and Middle Tennessee and coached on the offensive side of the ball at UCF, Memphis, and Tennessee.
Before joining Mark Stoops at Kentucky, Hinshaw and Gran were part of a top 10 offense with the Bearcats. The hopes of them bringing that explosiveness to Lexington for the Wildcats never materialized though, as the passing game finished at the bottom of the league annually, and Stoops now finds himself looking for a new direction with the offense.
