Few Arizona players are as well known in the desert as Wildcat alumnus Tedy Bruschi.
Before his 13-year playing career, all of which came with the New England Patriots, Bruschi was a three-time first-team selection to the All PAC-10 team as a key member of the vaunted "Desert Swarm Defense," while capturing the PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1995, and was also a two-time consensus All-American. As a pro he racked up over 1,100 tackles, was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, and three-time Super Bowl Champion.
Since his retirement from the game prior to the 2009 season, Bruschi has been on the set of ESPN analyst, where he was highly regarded for the professional insight he offered in a way that nearly everyone could understand.
He entered the Hall of Fames for both the Patriots and College Football in 2013.
In a move that is being applauded across the board, first-year Wildcat head coach Jedd Fisch carved out a role to bring Bruschi aboard his staff.
Bruschi's official title is Senior Advisor to the Head Coach.
So what does that role entail? The press release provided some insight into the type of responsibilities Fisch has in mind.
"Bruschi will serve as a member of the executive football management team while serving as a consultant with the entire football staff. He will also assist the head coach in alumni relations, fundraising, social justice initiatives and student-athlete development off the field."
Sounds like a perfect role for the decorated alumnus.
"I am very excited to re-establish my connection to the Arizona Football program," Bruschi shared in the release. "Coach Fisch, and his vision for the program, is the main reason for my new level of involvement. I look forward to assisting Coach Fisch and the program in any way I can as we develop the next generations of Wildcats who are purposeful, resilient and original. Bear Down!"
