A week after elevating Rod Carey from analyst to offensive coordinator to finish out the season, Tom Allen is reportedly adding some impressive experience to his support staff.
Justin Fuente, the former head coach at Memphis and Virginia Tech, has reportedly joined the staff in Bloomington as an analyst, according to multiple reports today.
Last Sunday, Tom Allen made the decision to take the offense in a new direction, parting ways with Walt Bell and elevating Carey to the offensive play caller role.
Now, they add some additional valuable experience on the offensive side of the ball with Fuente.
Before landing his first head coaching job at Memphis, Fuente was the co-offensive coordinator at TCU under Gary Patterson and also coordinated the offense at FCS Illinois State for a few seasons as well.
At Memphis, he inherited one of the most challenging FBS jobs in college football, earning an extension after winning four games in his first season. Year two they continued to lay the groundwork and they experienced breakout seasons in 2014 and 2015, going 10-3 and winning the conference before going 9-3 in his final season.
He continued that success early on at Virginia Tech, going 10-4 and 9-4 in his first two seasons before a dip to 6-7 in year three. The Hokies would win 8 games in 2019 before dropping to 5-6 and 5-5 in his final two seasons before he was let go with two games remaining in the regular season.
